To view Ridgewater College's streaming video, you will need the following:
Windows:
- Minimum: Windows 98SE or later - Windows XP recommended
- Minimum: 128 MB RAM - 256+ Recommended
- Minimum: 500 MHz processor - 1.5GHz+ Recommended
- 100 MB Hard drive space
- Broadband internet connection
- Microsoft Windows Media player 6.4 or better (for Windows 98 SE or higher we highly recommend Media Player 10 )
- A screen resolution of 1024x768 or better
- A sound card
- Internet Explorer 5 or better (we highly recommend Internet Explorer 6)
Macintosh:
No video playback, but audio works fine
Ensure that you have the latest version of Windows Media Player for your platform. Older versions of Windows Media are not able to play back the video stream. If you are using a laptop, make sure that your secondary VGA port is off. Some laptops will only allow video to play back on one screen. Also ensure that you have enough bandwidth to play the stream. our minimum system requirement is a 56k modem, but we highly suggest broadband.
No video or audio playback
Ensure that your firewall is off, or allows access on port 80. Also ensure that you are connected to the Internet.
Video is choppy and stuttering
You either have a slow machine not able to keep up with decompressing the video, or there are bandwidth issues preventing the video from streaming properly. Close out of all unnecessary applications, and stop and downloads you may be running.
Windows Media Player keeps telling me that it could not find a suitable decompressor or CODEC
Upgrade to Windows Media Player 9 or better. If you are running Windows NT or 95 you will not be able to upgrade. If you are running Windows 98 first edition you may update to Windows Media Player 7 and perform a CODEC update after that.
