General Questions

One of my network drives is missing.

Restarting your computer is the first thing to try if one of your network drives is missing. You need to be logged in to have your network drives mapped and something could have happened when you logged in. If you still don't have your drives after restarting call Computer Support.

My printer isn't printing.

Try turning your printer off and then on. If that doesn't work check the cords coming into your printer. If that still doesn't work send an email task to help.

Can you fix my home computer?

The IT Department repairs equipment that belongs to the college only.

My mouse jerks when I move it.

The rollers are dirty. Remove the ball and clean the rollers with a dry cloth (don't use any liquids).

How should I clean my monitor and computer?

Use damp cloth to clean monitor. Alcohol or 409 works well on the case.


Macintosh Questions

How can I rebuild my desktop?

Hold down the Apple and Option buttons during the boot process until it asks you if you want to rebuild the desktop. 

How do I boot on a CD-ROM?

Hold down the letter C during boot.

Access (Security)

To receive access to MNSCU you will need to fill out a form and submit it to the (Stacie Laughlin).

Virus & Virus Hoax Questions

Do you have a current virus list?

Yes. Go to  Virus List.

Is my anti-virus software up-to-date?

PC Machines - Yes, if you are connected to the network and have a green "heart monitor" on your task bar (next to the time). It will automatically pull down the latest updates when you login.
If you don't see the green icon, you can ask the Help Desk to add this feature.
Mac Machines - Probably not, you will need to download the update manually (the automatic update is not an option).

Virus Scanning

If you think you may have a virus follow the steps below to check your drive.

  1. Click on Start
  2. Move Cursor up to Programs
  3. Move over to Cheyenne Antivirus for Windows
  4. Move over to the program Cheyenne Antivirus for Windows
  5. Click on Cancel when it asks you to make a rescue disk.
  6. Click on the Scanner button when the quick access window appears.
  7. Pick the drive you want to scan
  8. Click on the green arrow
  9. You will see a message pop up if you have a virus.
  10. Always try to cure it if it finds one.
  11. Click on the X in the top left hand corner when done.
It is a good idea to scan for viruses at least once a month. There are many web sites that will give you virus information if you have questions about one. Here are a few of them: If you receive an email warning you about a virus and you want to make sure it is not a hoax check out this website HoaxKill. If your email is a hoax you can send it to them and they will send it to everyone that has passed it on.

Scheduling Labs

If you need to schedule computer labs on the Willmar Campus call Bonnie Ogdahl at ext. 5109. To schedule computer labs on the Hutchinson Campus call Heather Wright at ext. 218 or Tari Niemeyer at ext. 295.

Web Folders - Vista

  1. From your desktop, click on Start
  2. Find Computer in the menu and click on it
  3. At the top, click on Map Network Drive
  4. On the Map Network Drive screen, click Connect to a Website that you can use to store your documents and pictures, and then click next
  5. In the “Internet or network address” field, enter the URL that points to our resource tool:
    https://webmail.ridgewater.edu/wstaff
    If you are a student you will want to enter:  https://webmail.ridgewater.edu/wstudent
  6. Enter in your user ID information and enter in your password. 
    NOTE: you are using the same login information that you would use if you were on campus logging onto the network.
  7. Next you will be asked to name the network place.  I would do something like My H drive
  8. Click OK

To find the network access after the set-up…all you have to do is click on Start\Computer and click on My H Drive (same as you named it in step 7).

Bunsen Login Issue

If you are having trouble with your email asking you to login to Bunsen on your laptop try the following.


1.    Click on your Start button
2.    Choose Control Panel from the list
3.    Once in the control panel, click on mail
4.    Mail Setup – Default box will open, click on the E-mail Accounts…
5.    In the Account Settings Window, click once on Microsoft Exchange
6.    Click the Change icon
7.    In the lower right hand corner click the More Settings… button
8.    Click on the Connection tab
9.    At the bottom portion of the window under Outlook Anywhere, click the Exchange Proxy Settings… button
10.   Again…at the bottom portion of the window under Proxy authentication settings, be sure that NTLM Authentication is selected from the drop down list
11.   Click OK
12.   Click OK
13.   Click Next
14.   Click on Finish
15.   Click Close
16.   And close the control panel window
17.   Now open Outlook
