Ridgewater College Professional Human Development Club By-Laws

ARTICLE I - Name and Purposes of Organization

Section A

The name of this representative organization shall be PHD Club of Ridgewater College.

Section B

  1. The purposes for which this organization shall serve are as follows:
  2. To encourage student-directed activities that provide opportunities for self-realization and growth.
  3. To promote the welfare of the student body.
  4. Promote and involve the student body in human services activities, school and community wide.

ARTICLE II

Section A

All students currently enrolled in the Ridgewater PHD major of Ridgewater will be represented by the duly elected members of the PHD club.

Section B

Membership of the PHD Club shall consist of all class members and duly elected president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, historian, student senate representative and alternate.

Section C

All elections for PHD Club officers will be held each semester during the school year.

Section D

September elected officers preside through December and January elected officers preside until June.

Section E

Nominees for PHD Club officers shall be students in good standing and must be doing satisfactory work. An officer who misses three consecutive meetings without notification will be replaced by election.

Section F

Any officer who fails to perform his/her duties in accordance with this Constitution or is reported by the faculty to be seriously delinquent in his/her class work, may be dismissed by two-thirds majority vote of the PHD Club.

ARTICLE III - Officer's Duties

Section A - President

The powers and duties of the President shall be the following:

  1. Preside at all meetings of the PHD Club.
  2. Have the power to appoint special committees and to designate PHD members to serve on these committees.
  3. Assist the treasurer in the preparation of the budget.
  4. Preside impartially and give all a fair chance to be heard.
  5. May vote only to make or break a tie.
  6. Attend all student senate meetings.
  7. Preside over all fundraising activities.

Section B - Vice President

The powers and duties of the Vice President shall be the following:

  1. Perform the duties of the President in the President's absence or inability.
  2. In case of a temporary absence of the President, preside at the PHD meetings. Should the president be permanently absent, the Vice-President will assume the office of the PHD President and a new Vice-President will be elected from within the PHD Club.

Section C - Secretary

The powers and duties of the Secretary shall be the following:

  1. Keep accurate minutes of all PHD Club meetings.
  2. Prepare agenda and notices for meetings.
  3. Present PHD Club minutes at each meeting.
  4. If unable to attend meeting, must give information to Historian for presentation.

Section D - Treasurer

The powers and duties of the Treasurer shall be the following:

  1. Keep accurate records of all monetary transactions.
  2. Present Treasurers report at each PHD Club meeting.
  3. If unable to attend meeting, must give information to Historian for presentation.

Section E - Historian

The powers and duties of the Historian shall be the following:

    1. Keep accurate records of all PHD Club functions.
    • Picture Taking
    • Newspaper Articles
    • Events / Activities (school or community)

2. Present historical record of school year to PHD Club.

ARTICLE IV - Advisor

Section A

A member of the faculty of PHD major shall serve as advisor to the PHD Club.

Section B

An advisor shall be in attendance at the regular meeting of the PHD Club.

Section C

An advisor shall accompany the PHD officers and members to conferences, workshops, field trips and other related activities.

ARTICLE V - Meetings

Section A

Regular meetings of the PHD Club/officers shall be held during each week of the school year at times flexible to accommodate officers and advisor's schedules.

Section B - Social

    1. Officers will coordinate all social activities throughout the year.
    2. Officers will file club activities sheet with Dean of Student Life.

Section C - Sales and Fundraising

Officers will coordinate all fundraising activities.

Section D - Public Relations/Publicity

    1. Officers will promote the activities of PHD Club in the community through newspapers, radio and other media in coordination with the Ridgewater marketing department.
    2. The PHD Club will promote activities with Ridgewater
