All situations in an emergency cannot be neatly defined into categories for which hard and fast rules can be drawn. This manual is designed to give general guidance in case of an emergency. The appropriate response to an emergency situation will need to be evaluated on a case by case basis. Procedures as outlined here are not intended to be all-inclusive and individuals should use their best judgment for existing circumstances. To initiate a timely, effective response, remember the following key points:
- Know “Immediate Action” steps to protect yourself during an emergency.
- Assist students and visitors with evacuation and other protective actions.
- Be familiar with Ridgewater College Emergency Procedures and know your responsibilities.
- Call 911 in the event of a life-threatening
emergency. Campus assistance is available during normal business
hours and will assist you in activating the chain of command.
Call 6099 for Willmar campus assistance.
Call 8555 for Hutchinson campus
assistance
- Each campus has specific evacuation routes. Familiarize yourself with the evacuation routes for your area. Evacuation routes and shelter maps are located near the doors inside most labs and classrooms.
- With the exception of a fire alarm sounding, the college president or designee will make the decision to evacuate the campus or shelter-in-place.
