Ridgewater College emergency procedures

Severe Weather

Effects of severe local storms – wind, snow, ice, hail and tornadoes – can result in immobility and loss of utilities. If electrical lines are damaged, other utilities such as telephone systems (cell and land lines), natural gas, water and sewer systems may become inoperable. Transportation routes may be impassable, and students and personnel may be stranded.

  1. Operations will continue unless otherwise notified.
  2. If outside and threatened by severe weather or you observe lightning, move inside the building.
  3. If operation of a campus is suspended during normal operating hours, personnel will be notified by telephone, or in the event of telephone outage, by public address, email or runner.
  4. Call the Class Cancellation Line, 222-5565 at Willmar or
Call 234-8700 at Hutchinson for an announcement regarding cancelled classes or college closure. Local radio stations will be asked to announce campus closures. When possible, announcements and updates will be posted through email.
  5. If you are in a darkened area, remain calm and move cautiously to a lighted area.
