Title: My Three Angels
Director: David M. Dorsey
Cast Members:
Information:
Tribune gives play good reviews: Three angels, who were somewhat less than angelic, brought bliss, security, happiness and a Christmas dinner to an imaginary family on the Willmar Community College stage last night; and enjoyment, laughter, and a well-worth-it satisfaction to the customers.
"My Three Angels" is a happy success to kick off the 1964 theatre year at the college. Written by Sam and Bella Spewack, and directed by Dave Dorsey, the story involves a storekeeper's family in French Guinea which is "adopted" by three "guardian angels." The "angels" are actually convicts supposedly fixing the roof, but who fix up the daughters love life, straighten out the father's ledgers, and see to it that they all live happily ever after. It is only incidental that in the course of such happy procedure "Adolph" sees to it that there is a demise or two.

Information:
The largest musical theater production in W.S.J.C.'s history, "South Pacific," written by Rogers and Hammerstein, was presented to overflowing audiences May 10, 11, and 12. The play takes place on two islands of the South Pacific during W.W.II. It was directed by David Dorsey and Ivan Dusek provided technical assistance. Members of the cast were selected from both the college and community, with the college-community orchestra providing the musical background under the direction of Mr. Chet Sommers.
A Navy nurse, Nellie Forbush, played by Dee Anna Dorsey, and a French planter, Emile de Becque, played by Linton Lehrer, were the lead performers, adding the professional touch. Playing the major comedy roles were Carl Sorenson as Luther Billis, a Seabee, and Rosalin Peterson, playing Bloody Mary, who made a living by trading with the Navy.
Solos by Chuck Callow, as Lt. Cable, Bloody Mary, Nellie, and Emile added credit to the performance. Perhaps one of the most lively scenes was the "Honeybun" scene where Nellie and Billis sang and danced to the delight of the audience. Some of the remarks about the performance were "tremendous," "professional," and "enjoyable." There were standing ovations for all three performances.

This, the thirteenth Broadway show of Neil Simon's, is perhaps a slight change from his previous shows. His humor, while just as compelling as ever, is of a slightly gentler nature. This play had its start when Simon by chance picked up a volume of Chekhov's short stories and read, "The Sneeze." He thought it would make a delightful little play, but it would be so short! He proceeded to dramatize a selection of Chekhov's short stories - and then narrowed them to an effective evening of theatre.
Anton Chekhov, the "writer" who tells his stories was a practicing physician most of his adult life. One of his biographers called him "The Good Doctor," so that seemed the right title for a play drawn from the works of the Russian doctor who himself reached immortality with "The Three Sisters" and other turn-of-the-century masterpieces and only incidentally also wrote 800 short stories.
Neil Simon, since early childhood, also has had the nickname of "Doc" and since there is a great deal of both writers in evidence in the final result, the title of the play aptly identifies both authors.
"The Good Doctor" was presented December 6, 7, and 8 at the Willmar Community College Theatre.

WCC THEATRE HISTORY
Dames
at Sea is the last production
presented under the banner of Willmar Community College Theatre. On this eve of transition to the new,
consolidated Ridgewater College Theatre it seems appropriate to reflect on the
past thirty-some years. To attempt a
history in this short a space seems doomed to failure, so these comments shall
reflect memories, mental snapshots from a history of plays, musicals,
directing, acting, design, lighting, choreography, musical direction, and teaching. When the newly created college opened its
doors in the early sixties, David Dorsey was at the helm of the Theatre. Memorable productions from this early time
included Dial M for Murder, which opened, as ill fortune would have it,
within days of the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and a folk-opera, Down
in the Valley in collaboration with Chet Sommers and the Music
Department. When the young college split
into two schools with the birth of the Minnesota State Jr. College system, the
theatre, now part of the Junior College remained open to participation of
students of the Technical Institute as well as interested community
members. It has remained so to this
day. The theatre at WCC has enjoyed true
cooperation with other theatres, like the Barn Theatre, and shared the talents
of not only students of both institutions, but truly of the entire
community. In the late sixties the
faculty expanded with the addition of Ivan Dusek. The theatre was still located in one of the
buildings of the old radar base, which then housed the campus. Non-musical productions were presented there,
among them Shaw’s Arms and the Man and Brecht’s Mother Courage as
well as Mary Chase’s Harvey, while musical productions like South
Pacific in 1967 (directed by Dave Dorsey and featuring DeeAnna Dorsey and
faculty member Linton Lehrer), DamnYankees, and Li’l Abner (which
had an entire cast in dog-patch costumes chasing an escaped pig across the
parking lot) were moved to the city auditorium or the central office building. In 1971, the theatre was to move into its new
building on the current campus. The old
location had been rebuilt to house a carpentry shop and the new theatre was
nowhere near completion. The Barn
Theatre graciously offered its facility and WCC’s production of Dark of the
Moon moved to the old, unheated Barn Theatre. An unusually warm fall weather held until
